Celtics Take Commanding 3-0 Lead in NBA Finals

Boston Extinguishes Dallas Comeback, Downs Mavs 106-98

WEB The Boston Celtics have taken an ironclad grip on the 2024 NBA Finals, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 106-98 on Wednesday night to claim a commanding 3-0 lead in the series. Dallas mounted a spirited rally in the fourth quarter, but the Celtics' depth and defensive prowess proved too much to overcome.

Boston's Depth Proves Too Much

The Celtics' well-rounded roster was on full display in Game 3. While Jayson Tatum led the scoring with 29 points, five other Celtics players contributed double-digit point totals, including Jaylen Brown (21), Marcus Smart (19), Grant Williams (14), and Robert Williams III (12). This depth allowed Boston to absorb the loss of Al Horford, who missed the game due to a knee injury.

Luka-Kyrie Duo Struggles

For the Mavericks, the night was marked by struggles from their star duo of Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving. Dončić, who averaged 34 points in the first two games of the series, was held to just 21 points on 8-of-20 shooting. Irving, meanwhile, added 22 points but also committed seven turnovers.

Celtics Ground Mavs Bigs

The Celtics' defense also played a pivotal role in the victory, particularly against Dallas' big men. Kristaps Porzingis, who returned from a calf injury to score 20 points, was limited to just 3 rebounds. Dwight Powell, another key piece in Dallas' frontcourt, was held to 6 points and 3 rebounds.

The Celtics will now have a chance to close out the series in Game 4 on Friday night in Dallas. If they win, they will claim their 18th NBA championship, tying them with the Lakers for the most all-time.
